Did you know?
Despite its reputation as a wealthy Victorian spa town, Malvern has some small areas of deprivation amongst the worst in the UK. There are children in our town right now who are going to bed hungry.
Can we do better?
Introducing MALVERN COMMUNITY KITCHEN
Malvern Community Kitchen is a new project, providing high quality, freshly cooked early evening dinner for local families struggling with the cost of living crisis, on a referral basis from our local GPs and social prescribing partners. We intend for this to be as much like 'going out for dinner with the family' as possible. Once referred, families will be supported for a minimum of 6 months by the Community Kitchen. We will seek to recruit part-time staff and volunteers from within the community we seek to serve. We will open for our first referrals early in 2025, initially twice per week: once at the Octagon Centre, Poolbrook and once at St Mary’s Church, Pickersleigh. If successful, we would hope to expand provision to additional days at both centres and elsewhere in the Malvern area.
Funding Model
'One off' donations costs time and resources to collect. We want to do it differently: spending all our funds on the Community Kitchen itself. We are asking members of the Malvern Community and local businesses / traders to consider setting up standing orders with their banks to pay £2 per month (or whatever they can afford) to secure our ongoing term future. We are also asking larger and more successful local businesses to consider becoming 'Seed Funders', to help us with our initial 'start-up' costs. Individuals or companies contributing £1000 or more to ‘seed funding’ of MCK will be featured permanently on our webpage, and on any social media / in our email ‘signature’ for the first year of operation.
