Welcome to Malvern Community Kitchen

Why?

Most of us will have times in our lives when things just haven’t gone to plan, money is tight and we could do with a helping hand.  Equally, in our Victorian Spa town there are many local people who have plenty of money and can afford to help out others who are going through a tough patch.  I believe we should be doing better to look after each other as a community:  and that’s where the idea for the Malvern Community Kitchen project started.

What?

Malvern Community Kitchen prepares freshly cooked, nutritious and tasty food, such as chicken curries (very mild), pasta bakes and spaghetti bolognese once each week at the Octagon Centre, Poolbrook for local families with children who could do with a helping hand at the moment.  Much of our food comes from Fareshare - an organisation that collects high quality fresh (& in date!) surplus food from supermarkets, so eating with us helps to reduce food waste too.

Our intention is that the Community Kitchen should feel as much like taking the family out for dinner as possible and an opportunity to socialise with other local families.  We ask for a voluntary contribution of £1 per adult, children free.

When?

Following feedback from existing clients, we have moved our Community Kitchen evening at The Octagon Centre from Sunday to Monday evenings.  During the school summer holidays we will be offering the same nutritious home-made food as normal, but as a takeaway service. If you could do with a delicious and nutritious take-away supper for your family over the school holidays, please do drop in to The Octagon Centre between 4:30-5:00pm to collect your take-away.

From Monday 15th September we will be relaunching our Community Kitchen project and resuming sit down table-service.  So if you live in the WR14 area, have at least one child under 18 and would like to join us for supper, please contact us at malverncommunitykitchen@theoctagoncentre.org.uk and we will respond to confirm your reservation.

Our Future?

Over time, we hope that some of the community joining us at the Community Kitchen might be interested in getting involved in helping to organise and run the Community Kitchen project itself, including deciding how we could best expand for our local community.  Ideas include cooking courses and homework clubs:  but we want to be guided by local families before deciding our future direction.

Considering Sponsoring Malvern Community Kitchen?

One off donations make it difficult to plan for the future, so we are encouraging regular monthly donations by standing order, however small:  just £2 or £3 per month will soon mount up, if enough people support us.  If you run a successful local businesses, or you’re a local individual who can afford to, please do consider setting up a standing order.  Our bank details are as follows:
